Why Myopia Control Matters
Nearsightedness (also known as myopia) is not just about needing glasses to see clearly. If left unmanaged, nearsightedness can worsen rapidly as your child grows, increasing their risk of serious eye health issues later in life, such as retinal detachment or glaucoma.
Encouraging at least 2 hours of outdoor activity daily can help delay the onset of myopia, studies have shown, but once it begins, lifestyle changes are simply not enough. That’s where myopia control comes in.
Our personalized treatment programs work to slow myopia progression and help your child maintain better lifelong vision health.

At Hometown Vision, we provide evidence-based treatments tailored to your child’s unique needs. We’ll discuss with you and your child how each option can fit into their life comfortably and without adding to the already busy schedule we know families face.
In your child’s personalized eye exam with us, we can answer any questions you have about your child’s current prescription and how myopia control might specifically affect them.
MiSight 1 Day Lenses
MiSight contacts are soft, daily disposable contact lenses specifically designed for myopia control. They focus light in a way that slows the elongation of the eye that is directly responsible for myopia progression.
These lenses can even work great for younger kids, especially kids who are active or who don’t love wearing glasses. They’ve been shown to slow myopia progression 59% on average over 3 years and over a 6-year period, kids wearing MiSight 1 day saw their prescriptions progress less than 1.00D on average.
ZEISS MyoCare Lenses
ZEISS MyoCare are myopia control glasses lenses that combine vision correction with myopia control. They have special zones designed for “myopic defocus,” which means they signal to the eye that it does not need to grow longer. Elongation of the eye is a key contributor to the progression of nearsightedness.
They are an excellent option for children who prefer glasses over contacts.
Atropine Eye Drops
Low-dose atropine eye drops are a safe and effective way to slow the progression of myopia in children. These drops use a much lower concentration of the same medicine used to dilate the eyes during a routine exam, but without the strong side effects associated with higher doses.
These drops are easy to use and help protect your child’s eyes as they grow. They don’t correct your child’s vision, so they may need to wear glasses or contacts during the day.
Combination Treatment
For cases where more comprehensive myopia management is beneficial, we may recommend combination treatments. This might involve using atropine with MiSight or Myocare lenses for enhanced results.
We’ll always work closely with you to determine the best approach for your child’s vision needs.
Glasses Are No Longer Enough for Nearsighted Kids
Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is no longer just an inconvenience. It’s a growing concern for children’s long-term eye health. If you’ve heard about the “myopia epidemic,” there’s a good reason why.
Myopia Is Starting at Younger Ages
Today, about 30% of the global population is nearsighted, but by 2050, that number is expected to soar to 50%—half the world. Kids are developing nearsightedness younger (ages 6–7) than they used to and it’s progressing faster.
Nearsightedness Increases Risk of Eye Conditions
Myopia may seem minor when your child is young with a mild prescription. But as myopia progresses, the risks to eye health increase. Higher myopia heightens the chance of developing vision-threatening issues like retinal detachment, glaucoma, cataracts, and myopic maculopathy.
Protect Their Vision with Myopia Control
Glasses can help your child see clearly, but they don’t slow down the progression of myopia itself. This is why so many families are turning to proactive strategies for myopia control. Let us explain all the options and help you make a decision.
Start your child’s myopia control journey today and protect their vision for the future.
